Overflowing

When I was much younger, I dreamed of the day I would find "Mr. Right" and spend the rest of my life with him. There were various guys I "liked" in high school and then also in college, however, none of them were "the one".

Through a couple of friends, I finally met HIM, we began dating, and not long after that we married. I thought my life was complete and my heart was full that 26th day of March in 1983 when I became Mrs. Jeffrey Berges.

A year-and-a-half later we welcomed our first son, Ben, into this world on September 24, 1984. Again, I thought my heart was full. Then three-and-a-half years later, our other son was born on February 26, 1988. Once again, my heart continued to fill.

From the moment our first son was born, my thoughts began to look to the future. Who would marry each of our boys?  What was she going to be like? Would she have the type of personality to match his? Would they have the same likes and values? Would they be happy? I don't know about Jeff, but I thought about this a great deal and prayed about this even more.

To our joy, Ben married the love of his life, Danielle, on April 12, 2008 and Alex married the love of his life, Madeleine, on October 3, 2015. We couldn't have chosen any better for each of the boys than they did. Of course, I do believe that God was the reason for them meeting each other as these two "girls" of mine were the two I had begun praying for even before they were born. So, on October 3, 2015, when our youngest got married, my heart was finally full.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, my heart is already full to the brim, I find that I will now move from just being a wife, mom, and mother-in-law to the coveted title of Grandma, a title I have waited to have for quite a while. With the upcoming birth of the first grandchild, Paisley, my heart is no longer just full, but is overflowing. It is overflowing with the love of my husband, sons, daughters-in-love, and now a granddaughter.

God has blessed my life by filling my heart and my life with His love. His blessings continue as my heart now overflows with his love for me and my love for this new life. I hope and pray that my heart will continue to overflow with more of His blessings.

  1. I didn't know about your blog, but now that I do, I'll be reading more. I love these words you have shared, and they feel quite similar as I too have a wonderful husband, two brilliant sons, two beautiful daughter-in-law's, and three gorgeous grandchildren. You have no idea how your life is going to change with a grandchild. It's the most amazing, wonderful, blessed experience I've ever had and no doubt will be for you. Congratulations to all of you on this new chapter in your family. I can't wait to meet Miss Paisley through pics.
